Edit a DOCX file online

How it works

- Edit text, formatting, lists, tables and images.
- Download the result as .docx.
What you get
Paragraphs, headings, lists, tables, images, bold, italic, underline and links are read from the file.
The file is read in your browser. It is not sent to a server.
Your original is never modified. You download a new .docx.
How faithfully does it open Word files?
We read the document structure and convert it into editable content. Simple and moderately formatted documents come through well. Elaborate layouts may not.
Before you rely on an edited file, open the download once to check it. Anything the editor cannot represent is reported after import so you know what changed.
Large files
Files up to 25 MB are accepted. Very large files with many images can be slow on older phones.
Limitations
We would rather you know before you start. These are the things this tool does not do or may not preserve:
- Tracked changes, comments, footnotes, endnotes, text boxes, equations and embedded objects are not preserved.
- Page headers and footers from the original file are not shown while editing.
- Password-protected files cannot be opened.
Questions
Will my formatting be kept?
Common formatting is kept. Complex layouts may be simplified. Check the downloaded file before sending it on.
Can I edit .doc files?
Not directly. Open the .doc file in a desktop app and save it as .docx first.
Do you keep my file?
No. Processing happens in your browser. A draft copy is stored in your browser's local storage only so it can be recovered, and you can clear it at any time.
