Open an XLSX file online
If someone sent you an .xlsx file and you do not have a spreadsheet app handy, open it here. You can read it, edit it, and download your changes.
How it works
- Choose an .xlsx or .csv file or drag it onto the page.
- Review sheets using the tabs at the bottom.
- Edit if needed and download.
What you get
Cell values, formulas, sheet names, column widths and common formatting are imported.
Open a CSV and save it as .xlsx, or the other way around.
Files are read locally in your browser.
What comes through on import
Values, formulas, number formats, fonts, fills, borders, merged cells, column widths and row heights are read from the file and shown in the grid.
Features without a counterpart in the editor, such as pivot tables, slicers, macros and some chart types, are not carried over. The importer lists anything it skipped.
Tips for big files
Close other tabs if the page feels slow. Files over 25 MB are rejected to protect your browser.
Limitations
We would rather you know before you start. These are the things this tool does not do or may not preserve:
- Pivot tables, slicers, macros, external links and form controls are not preserved.
- Conditional formatting and data validation are imported on a best-effort basis.
- Password-protected workbooks cannot be opened.
Questions
Can I open .xls files?
Older .xls files are not supported. Save them as .xlsx in a desktop app first.
Will formulas still calculate?
Yes. Formulas are recalculated in the browser.
Can I just view the file without editing?
Yes. Open it and scroll. Nothing changes unless you edit and download.
