Convert a PDF to an editable Word document
Pull the text out of a PDF and get it as a Word file you can edit. Lines are grouped into paragraphs and large headings are kept bold, with a page break between original pages.
This is a text extraction, not a layout-perfect conversion. Columns, tables, images and fonts are not reproduced, so expect to tidy the result.
How to pDF to Word in 3 steps
- Choose a PDF that contains selectable text.
- Press Convert to Word.
- Open the downloaded .docx in Word, Pages or Google Docs and clean up the formatting.
Will it work on my PDF?
Try selecting a sentence in your PDF with the mouse. If you can highlight it, the text is extractable and this tool will work. If you cannot, the PDF is a scan made of pictures, and turning it into text needs OCR, which this tool does not provide.
Getting a cleaner result
Documents with a single column of text, such as letters, contracts and articles, convert best. For multi-column layouts or tables, expect lines in reading order but without the grid.
Private by design
PDF to Word runs as code inside your browser tab. The file you choose is read from your device and the result is built on your device, so it is not sent to our servers or anyone else's. You can confirm this by watching the Network tab in your browser's developer tools while you use the tool.
