Add a text watermark to a PDF

Mark every page with words like DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL or a name. Choose the size, how transparent it is and whether it runs diagonally or straight across.

How to add Watermark to PDF in 3 steps

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Type the watermark text and pick size, angle and opacity.
  3. Press Add watermark and download.

Making it readable but not distracting

A medium opacity at 45 degrees stays visible on both light and dark content without hiding the text beneath. For letterhead-style marks, use horizontal text with low opacity.

What a watermark does not do

A watermark discourages casual reuse, but it is not a security feature. Anyone with a PDF editor can remove it. If a document must be protected, use Protect PDF as well.

Text is limited to Latin characters supported by the standard PDF fonts.

Private by design

Add Watermark to PDF runs as code inside your browser tab. The file you choose is read from your device and the result is built on your device, so it is not sent to our servers or anyone else's. You can confirm this by watching the Network tab in your browser's developer tools while you use the tool.
