How to Convert a PDF to JPG or PNG Images

Export PDF pages as images, choose resolution and format, and understand the size trade-offs.

Turning PDF pages into images is handy for slide decks, social posts, image editors and systems that accept pictures but not PDFs.

Steps

  • Open PDF to JPG and choose your file.
  • Pick the resolution and format.
  • Convert and download the ZIP of page images.

Picking a resolution

  • 100 dpi: small previews
  • 150 dpi: normal screen use
  • 220 to 300 dpi: print or zooming in

JPG or PNG

JPG is smaller and good for photos. PNG is lossless and keeps sharp text and line art, but files are larger.

Only one page

Pull out the page first with Extract PDF pages, then convert the single-page PDF.

Large documents

Rendering many high-resolution pages needs memory. On a phone, convert big documents in parts or choose a lower resolution.

Text in the image

The pictures contain pixels, not text. They cannot be searched or copied, which is sometimes exactly what you want.
