How to Split a PDF Into Separate Pages or Sections

Divide a PDF into single pages, equal parts or custom sections, and when extracting is the better choice.

Splitting is the opposite of merging, and there are three common ways to do it.

One file per page

Useful for scanned batches where each sheet is its own document, such as invoices. Choose "Every page into its own file" in Split PDF and download the ZIP.

Equal chunks

A 120-page report can become six 20-page files by choosing a fixed number of pages per file. Good for sending a long document in manageable pieces.

Custom sections

Type ranges separated by semicolons, for example 1-4; 5-12; 13-end. Each range becomes its own file. Use this to separate chapters or to pull out an appendix.

When to extract instead

If you only want one set of pages as a single file, Extract PDF pages is faster. Select the pages on thumbnails and download a single PDF.

After splitting

Names are numbered part-01, part-02 and so on. Rename them to something meaningful before sharing. If any part is still large, run it through Compress PDF.
